Gregory Tyus Biography

Rev. Gregory Tyus is the Senior Pastor of the United Missionary Baptist Church in
Middletown, OH a position he has held since March 7, 1993. On February 5, 2023, he was
elevated to the rank of Senior Pastor Emeritus; and on March 31, 2023 he officially retires
completing an illustrious 30 years of dedicated service.
In 2004, Gregory was appointed to serve on the Middletown City Council, completing the term
for 18 months for the late Robert “Sonny” Hill upon his transition to eternity. Gregory was the
Co-Founder and Board Chairman of M.A.L.A.C.H.I. Inc. a not-for-profit organization that
served and existed for 16 years in Middletown serving youth until the merger with CBI, Inc.
which now has the responsibility for the operations of the Robert “Sonny” Hill Community OH
Center.
Gregory has previously served and/or worked with a number of boards and foundations
throughout the area. The United Way-Middletown Action Council, Middletown Community
Foundation – Funds Distribution Committee, Middletown City Schools-Board of Education,
and Midfest International just to name a few.
He is the past president of the Middletown African-American Ministerial Alliance. In January
2008, he was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Middletown School Board. Upon his
return, he was elected and served as its President. In 2011 he was appointed to represent the
Middletown City Schools on the Butler Tech School Board (Ohio’s largest career-technical
school). On March 19, 2012, United’s illustrious leader was presented the United Way of
Greater Cincinnati-Middletown Area Volunteer of the Year award. And in 2013, in addition to
Rev. Tyus’ full-time pastoral duties, he was elected to serve as President of the Butler Tech
School Board and Vice-President of the Middletown City School Board.
Because of his passion for education, the youth, and the citizens of the Middletown Area, in
January 2017 he was presented the 11 th Annual Robert “Sonny” Hill Humanitarian Award by
the family of the late Robert “Sonny” Hill.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a veteran of the U.S. Army; He holds a degree in Business
Management from Cincinnati State College, with a minor in Accounting; and is completing his
degree at Cincinnati Christian Bible College. Gregory is the husband of Linda L. Reese-Tyus
and together they are the parents of 6 adult children and 22 grandchildren, and 3 great-
grandchildren.
One Greg’s favorite scriptures passages is Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect,
even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
